The Palais Coburg has a long history and was once the residence of members of the Austrian imperial family. Today, it is a private guesthouse with 36 individually designed suites and an exclusive event venue known for its magnificent rooms, exquisite cuisine, and first-class service. An unobstructed view of Vienna’s Stadtpark and the Ringstraße is guaranteed to this day thanks to an easement granted by the emperor.

The house is also known by the charming nickname “Spargelburg” (Asparagus Castle), a reference to the striking, slender white columns on the façade, which resemble asparagus spears. This architectural detail gives the building its distinctive character and highlights the delicate balance between elegance and whimsy that makes it one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Vienna.

What makes the Palais Coburg so special is its blend of historic charm and contemporary luxury. Its architecture, private garden, and state rooms make it the perfect venue for weddings with a touch of elegance—whether you’re celebrating with a small group or a large gathering.

History of the Palais Coburg

Construction on the Coburg Bastion began in 1843. By 1845, the residence was complete, and Vienna had a landmark that not only served as a symbol of prestige but also played a decisive role.

The House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha linked royal houses through marriage: Vienna with London, Lisbon with Brussels. For them, marriage was not a private matter, but a way of life—a way of making history.

The main restaurant in this building still bears her name today: Clementine of Orléans, a princess of the House of Saxe-Coburg, who traveled, wrote, and was widely read long before the word “reach” was associated with a number.

The Johann Strauss Hall, where waltzes were first performed, is now open for receptions and ceremonies. The 16th-century casemates, once stables, are now banquet halls with their own unique acoustics. The private garden, a green oasis in the city that needs no introduction.

The Palais Coburg is not a museum. It is a place that still knows why it was built.

Venues for the wedding ceremony

Palais Coburg offers a variety of rooms that can be perfectly adapted to suit the style and size of your wedding:

State Rooms: The Hall of Mirrors, with its stucco-marble columns; the Yellow Salon, with its silk wallpaper; and the Blue Salon, featuring an open fireplace, are available for receptions, ceremonies, and dinners. Chandeliers, historic murals, and fine fabrics create a setting in these rooms that is truly unique in Vienna.

Casemates: If you’re looking for a unique, almost mystical setting, you’ll find it in the historic casemates. These 16th-century underground vaults are divided into the Long Casemates and the High Casemates, each with its own acoustics and atmosphere.
